Some French publications last week reported that the national Ministry of the Armed Forces will recruit special groups composed of science fiction writers. The purpose of this is to model the responses to the threats of the future. These threats will be invented by writers with a rich imagination.
It is assumed that the fantasy of writers will allow to model situations that the ministry itself cannot predict. For example, one of the tasks will be the analysis of the consequences of using artificial intelligence. Writers will work closely together to exchange ideas among themselves. Futurist designs will be confidential. Secret will be the composition of the teams. By the way, they will be called Red Team. The name is taken from cyber security. This is usually the name of teams of specialists who model potential cyber attacks and possible actions of hackers.
Currently, contacts are being established with potential employees. This idea belongs to Emmanuel Shiva. He is director of the Defense Innovation Agency of France. Previously, he attracted astrophysicists to the ministry. According to experts, the creation of these teams will be useful for the development of the French military industry. It should be said that the red teams are working and in American intelligence.
I agree that this is probably a promising direction. In America … But with France there are certain doubts. Given the French mentality, it seems to me that they will not achieve much success. Or on the other hand they will go too far. In general, there are enough problems in the country itself and it is time to solve them. Or are the science fiction writers waiting on the Champs Elysees too?
