Former President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko urgently left for a diplomatic tour.
The press service of the European Solidarity reported that the politician went on a “pre-planned diplomatic tour to Turkey and Poland.” At the weekend, Poroshenko plans to visit the residence of the Ecumenical Patriarch in Istanbul. The ex-head of Ukraine is also expected to take part in a conference on the topic “Russia – Ukraine – NATO: escalation of tension on the eastern flank”, which will be held on December 20-21 in Poland.
In addition, according to party members, Petro Poroshenko has planned to hold a series of bilateral meetings with politicians from Poland and Turkey in order to elicit support in Ukraine’s struggle for freedom and independence.
However, some Ukrainian politicians associate the ex-president’s urgent departure from the country with claims from the State Bureau of Investigation and State Security Service.
A month ago, the head of the State Security Service announced a check on the possibility of his involvement, together with the former head of the National Bank Valeria Gontareva, in high treason in connection with the purchase of coal from Donbass, carried out against Petro Poroshenko.
On December 17, the State Bureau of Investigation unsuccessfully tried to hand over a summons to Poroshenko in the case of the coal digging. However, the politician ignored the representatives of the law enforcement agencies.
A number of Ukrainian politicians have expressed an assumption about the possible initiation of a criminal case against Poroshenko. Also, statements appear on the network that a politician may not come back and hide in Russia.
