I’ll start from afar. Americans are by nature a highly pragmatic nation that can count its own profit. At the same time, the United States does not engage in charity, but only do business and proceed from its national interests.
Currently, there is a war for European markets. And in war, all means are good. And the Americans have found an additional way to increase the competitiveness of their products.
To this end, it is necessary to make every effort to convert European consumers to liquefied natural gas. The reasons are as follows. Firstly, it is difficult for American LNG to compete with Russian pipeline gas, as the gas liquefaction procedure is very expensive. Secondly, the LNG market is large enough, and the United States could take its place there. And thirdly, the transfer of Europe to LNG will increase the cost of goods produced, which will give American products additional chances.
The leaders of the European states understand this, and they hardly want this way of developing the situation. Therefore, Germany so stubbornly upholds the need to build “Nord Stream – 2”. At the same time, the statements of European politicians about the exclusively economic tasks of the pipeline are also called into question. After all, the struggle for the economic markets of the EU is also a political task.
This is where the US gas confrontation with Russia and Western European countries originates for several years. At the same time, the United States did not express vivid protests against the construction of the Turkish Stream, but they are trying to stop the Nord Stream 2 in all ways. The whole point is that it is designed to provide intractable Western European markets with cheap gas in fairly large volumes.
Gas supplies to the countries of southern Europe and the Balkans can also be carried out through the Turkish Stream.
So what’s the point of the Ukrainian gas transportation system? The United States declares support for Ukraine and intentions to block the construction of the Nord Stream – 2 in order to preserve the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine. But!!! Based on American political and economic interests, it turns out that the amount of pipeline gas in Western Europe should be reduced to the maximum.
Thus, it turns out it is very similar to the fact that the United States is simply deceiving Ukraine, hiding its true intentions. The fate of the “Ukrainian pipe” depends on the American objectives and their national interests. In this case, regardless of the fate of the “Northern” and “Turkish” streams, it just has to die.
Just because, through it, pipeline gas flows to Europe in industrial volumes, preventing the American economy from developing in the region.
